Check Your Heart!

When we are hit with severe hardship, trial, or affliction, one of two things generally happens:

We retreat INWARD—

—or we reach UPWARD.

When We Retreat Inward:

Our HEARTS HARDEN, leading to a spirit of bitterness and resentment taking root—

—and we lash out at God with fiery rage because life seems so UNFAIR.

When We Reach Upward:

Our HEARTS SOFTEN, and our love and devotion to God—coupled with our utter helplessness apart from Him—drive us to our knees in shame-faced sobriety—

—and we cry out to Him in anguish, "Abba, Father!" with a broken and contrite heart because we know we cannot do it ALONE.

How Will You Respond to Life's Challenges?

Will you harden or soften?

Will you stand alone or kneel in His presence?

Will you isolate in anger or connect in surrender?

Will BITTERNESS drive you—

—or will HUMILITY guide you?

It's that simple.

The Bible Version Conundrum

The King James Bible is my go-to source.

That's right—the KJV is the translation I reach for MOST.

However, while I prefer the KJV, I am not "King James Only."

Why?

Because the audience must UNDERSTAND the words being preached.

So, I choose the translation that will IMPACT the broadest possible audience.

This means that for some audiences, I'll cite the ESV or NKJV; for others, the KJV or NASB; still, for others, the NIV or NLT—

—because it's not just about hearing the words—

—but ABSORBING them.

It's not just about listening to the words—

—but INTERNALIZING them.

Comprehension is CRITICAL—

—and discernment is ESSENTIAL.

Don't Be a "Man-Child"

So, strive for EXCELLENCE, not acceptance, because WINNERS look internally, but losers look externally.

—but suffering is VOLUNTARY.
