Check Your Heart!

"Touch me, O Lord,
and fill me with your light and your hope.
Please give me strength when I am weak,
love when I am forsaken,
courage when I am afraid,
wisdom when I am foolish,
comfort when I am alone,
hope when I am rejected,
and peace when I am afflicted.
Amen."

When we are hit with severe hardship, trial, or affliction, one of two things generally happens:

We retreat inward—

—or we reach upward.

When We Retreat Inward

Our HEARTS HARDEN, leading to a spirit of bitterness and resentment taking root—

—and we lash out at God with fiery rage because life seems so UNFAIR.

When We Reach Upward

Our HEARTS SOFTEN, and our love and devotion to God—coupled with our utter helplessness apart from Him—drive us to our knees in shame-faced sobriety—

—and we cry out to Him in anguish, "Abba, Father!" with a broken and contrite heart because we know we cannot do it ALONE.

How Will You Respond to Life's Challenges?

Will you harden or soften?

Will you stand alone or kneel in His presence?

Will you isolate in anger or connect in surrender?

Will BITTERNESS drive you—

—or will HUMILITY guide you?

"Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon."
